We are working alongside Johanna Molineus Architects to re-purpose and extend a deep, hinterland block in Soho. Located on the peerless eighteenth century Meard Street and the hidden Richmond Mews, this Edwardian car garage had passed into use as a film processing works in the 1960’s. With the eclipse of that technology, the dark basement spaces, blacked out frontage and expanse of flat roof with ugly plant rooms over, form a void in the Conservation Area. This place now seeks a future of employment, sustainability, light, energy and imagination, sensitive to context and people, at the heart of Westminster’s creative hub.
The proposals are for a mixed use development of 35 000 sq ft, incorporating the existing residential block to a subtle sectional strategy of gym at basement, retail and office at ground and a stepped section of offices up to fourth floor. These proposals are benefiting from community and stakeholder consultations leading towards a planning application to Westminster in the autumn.
