160 BOROUGH HIGH STREET LONDON

Westminster Real Estate

This comprehensive refurbishment involved stripping back to shell and frame, retaining and revealing what was best in a previously re-clad 1960’s warehouse office. Deep basement space was opened up as a double height volume through the ground floor. Upper floors were re-cored and de-cluttered, with daylight maximised and lighting and cooling services closely co-ordinated and simply expressed.

The removal and replacement of the street façade contributes a cool new identity by day and night as part of the regeneration of this ancient route into the City. The glazed bays record the plots of the Saxon era and echo the architecture of the seventeenth century street, but in a wholly modern form and technology. A formerly forbidding, closed and ugly frontage is remade as welcoming, transparent and elegant.
